EDF extends the operating life of Torness to 2030

EDF Energy announced on February 16th 2016 that they have extended the expected operating life of Torness and three other UK nuclear power stations – Heysham 1 and Heysham 2 in Lancashire, and Hartlepool in Teeside.

Torness and Heysham 2 have been extended by 7 years to 2030, while Heysham 1 and Hartlepool have extended by five years to 2024.

The four nuclear plants together supply electricity to around a quarter of the UK’s homes .
