Free WiFi in East Lothian Map

openwifi_305x250East Lothian Council web and communications team have recently developed a ‘Free WiFi in East Lothian Map’ as part of their digital inclusion strategy.

The link to the WiFi Map is here

The map is a way to help all residents and visitors to the county get online and gives details of where in East Lothian there are free Wi-Fi spots on an easy to use map and how they can be accessed. The map currently includes all council buildings which provide free Wi-Fi, as well as businesses and other hotspots around the county.

Businesses and other groups are encouraged to contact the web and communications team at East Lothian Council if they would like to be added to the map.

Take the Survey To Help Improve Broadband Availability in Rural Areas

The availability of fast and reliable broadband is becoming more and more important in daily life – for learning, work and leisure. Connectivity however is varied across East Lothian and many rural and remote areas of the county are unlikely to benefit significantly from existing roll out plans for Superfast Broadband in the area.

To help ensure that people living in rural areas across East Lothian do not miss out on the opportunities offered by Superfast Broadband, Area Partnerships are working with Community Broadband Scotland to develop a project that will deliver access to effective broadband to rural and remote communities.

The next step in this project is to be able to prove that a significant number of people in these areas really want and need Superfast Broadband. It is hoped to do this through the Improving Broadband Connectivity Survey. The survey is available here

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Printed paper copies can be provided if people prefer.

The survey closes on the 20th Feb. 2015.
