Warning Regarding Telephone Scams

Following an incident in Dunbar whereby a lady has been scammed out of a five figure sum, Police are reminding people to be extra vigilant when they receive unexpected telephone calls, particularly from people claiming to be from their bank.

Never assume a phone call is authentic just because someone knows your basic details for example your name and address. If something feels wrong, then it’s usually right to question it.

Your bank or Police will never contact you by telephone asking you to move money or hand over information about your account.

Do not divulge personal information over the phone unless you initiate the call – If in doubt terminate the call.

Merry Christmas from East Lammermuir Community Council

The members of ELCC would like to wish all residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year where we all start to relax, indulge and celebrate with friends and family; or even look forward to travelling somewhere warm or quiet. It’s the fortunate choice some of us have.

But Christmas can also be the loneliest of times which affects many in our community. From a student away from home for the first time, to a parent bringing up a family by themselves. Newly bereaved, or someone too proud to tell anyone for fear of imposing on others. Lots of reasons are well hidden away. Lets say hello to each other and ask how their day is, or just add a cheerful smile. These will never resolve loneliness within our community, but something simple could be a start that may make a difference to that person’s day.
